The Department of Botany was established with the inception of the University in 1967. Founder of the department was great Prof. Talwar, Prof. Neelam Pruthi, Prof. Antaryami Kaushik. Department has been a centre of higher learning in Plant Sciences and was recognized by University Grants Commission. The glory of department is evidenced by alumni who are holding important position in Universities and Institutes in India and abroad.
The department is now very well known for the excellent teaching and research contributions made in the field of Plant–Pathology, Ecology, Angiosperms Taxonomy, Biochemistry and Radiation biology which have been duly recognized by U.G.C as the major thrust areas.
LABORATORIES AND FACILITIES:
Botany department is equipped with several laboratories supervised by faculty members. The department provides laboratory facilities to under graduate and postgraduate students as well as research scholars. The facilities includes; microscopy and photographic facilities, UV-VIS spectrophotometer, Flame photometer, GPS system, Rotary evaporator, Rotary shakers, Molecular biology, Tissue culture, Laminar flow chambers, Fungus culture facility, Mushroom cultivation, herbarium, Polyhouse, Glass house, Botanical garden for teaching and research. The Department also subscribes National, International Books and journals in Botany. Seminar, LCD projector, Wi-Fi Lab facility also available.

All faculty members are actively involved in research and contributing for Science. The total Research paper publications in various reputed national and international journals are 6, total books published from the department are 6 and the faculties had attended 38 conferences, both national and international. Four minor research projects are successfully completed in the Botany Department on important themes which includes
(i) In-vitro Investigation on the Non thermal electromagnetic Radiations from Mobile phone on ophthalmic tissue in Animal tissue culture.
(ii) In vitro & in-vivo phytochemical study of Lantana camara and Bryophyllum
(iii) Pollen flora of Indian Desert
(iv) Study of Pesticides and Agro ecosystem

(i) Ms. Kivoli 3rd Rank in MGSU, Bikaner
(ii) Ms. Suman Pal 4th Rank in MGSU Bikane
(iii) The Department is organizing various activities like seminars, conferences, Quiz Competitions etc.
(iv) Students of graduate adn post graduate classes were taken for plant collection, educational and industrual trips to give them practical knowledge.
(v) A 3 days program is organized in Botany Department named “Arboreal” every year.
- ARBOREAL-I(2014) The program was categorized day wise in Poster and Model Presentation, Plant material section cutting and Seminar.
- ARBOREAL-II(2015) The program was categorized day wise in Poster and Model Presentation, Plant material section cutting and Seminar.
- ARBOREAL-III(2016) The program was categorized day wise Botany Quiz competetion for B.Sc. Ist year, IInd year, IIIrd year. The quiz were based on their university syllabus and divided into four rounds afer screening test. The rounds were Question round, Rapid fire round, Memory round and Quick draw round. The aim of the quiz was to prepare students for various types of questions as per examination pattern.
